In Q1, SDL Vietnam supported the Tam Duc House of Hope, which supports abandoned babies up to 3 years old, providing food and education. Over US$200 was raised just from office donations, which went towards milk and nappies – items urgently required. A team of 11 employees visited the orphanage to give the donations in person, and to spend time with a few of the babies cared for at the facility.
“Sir Bradley” Buddy and Alastair Gordon (ex-CFO of SDL) have completed their 1000+ mile adventure, raising over £17,000 of much needed funds for Mencap. The particular Mencap project they supported provides 40 children with learning disabilities a week-long adventure, education and vocational break, while providing their parents and carers with a much needed rest. The trip, averaging 70 miles a day, covered a number of the larger islands around the UK.
When it comes to doing their bit for charity, SDL CEO, Mark Lancaster, and Roddy Temperley, Global Head of Employee Experience and Human Resources, are certainly in good company. Showing they’re as up for a challenge as the likes of George W Bush, Bill Gates and even Justin Bieber, Mark and Roddy recently completed the Ice Bucket Challenge and then nominated all the Site Leaders. Some of you were brave enough to join in the fun. In case you haven’t seen the viral videos that are awash (see what we did there!) on social media, Mark, Roddy and the Site Leaders had a bucket of ice water dumped over their heads to raise awareness of ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. As a result of global fundraising efforts SDL raised in excess of $4000. If you have not seen their effort you can see it, and the others from SDL employees across the world, by clicking below.
